Poet Aminur Rahman awarded in Malaysia

An international poetry festival titled “3rd Numera World Poetry Expression” was recently held at Kuala Lumpur Malaysia. About 70 poets from 8 countries (Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Brunei, Bangladesh, Belgium, Russia, Singapore) participated in this renowned gathering of poetic expression of South East Asia. Six important poets from Bangladesh- Asad Chowdhury, Hayat Saif, Mohammad Nurul Huda, Habibullah Sirajee, Jahidul Huq and Aminur Rahman attended the festival. In the festival Aminur Rahman along with Malaysian National Laureate Professor Emeritus Dato Dr Mohammad Hj, Salleh was honoured with the honourary medal titled ‘Numera World Award of Letters 2016’ at the main auditorium of Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP). Poet Sastri Bakri from Indonesia was given the Numera Sirkand Award. Also in conjunction with the event Numera, Malaysia has published Poet Aminur Rahman’s bi-lingual (Malay-English) poetry book “Diari Abadi” which stand for “Perpetual Diary” in English. The book has been translated by renowned Malaysian poet Dr Raja Rajeswari Seetha Raman. This is the first time for a Bangladeshi poet to be awarded in Malaysia. Aminur Rahman has also become the first Bangladeshi author, whose writings have been published in Malaysia.

Creative house Numera; Permodalan Nasional Berhad (PNB), Malaysia’s biggest fund management company were the organisers of the festival. Numera President National Laureate Dato Dr Ahmad Kamal Abdullah gave opening remarks at Istana Budaya (Palace of Culture) premises in a formal inaugural function while Tan Sri Hamad Kama Piah, chairman of PNB handed over the awards to the respective poets. Aminur Rahman was also the moderator of “Poetry of Malaysia and Bangladesh-strength and challenges”, one of the three symposiums held during the poetry festival. Poet Nurul Huda and Poet Hayat Saif presented papers at DBP on contemporary poetry. Poet Asad Chowdhury, Habibullah Sirajee and Jahidul Huq took part in the discussion in these symposiums and read their poetry as well. Poetry reading session also took place at the Textile Museum Auditorium and around the river bank of Kelip- Kelip Kampung Kuantan. A bi-lingual (Malay-English) chapbook on the six Bangladeshi poets was published on this occasion.
